Case #1: Leila, the Golden Retriever

Name: Leila

Age: 8 months

Sex: Female (spayed)

Breed: Golden Retriever

Leila came in to see Dr. Marie because the owners noticed that she was just “not herself”.  She had been lethargic for a few days and her appetite was decreased.  She was still drinking.  In fact, she was possibly drinking a little more water than usual.  She also had had a few urinary accidents in the house too.

Dr. Marie did a thorough physical exam.  Lola was very quiet and had a mild skin tent meaning that she was possibly a little dehydrated.  Her temperature was elevated at 103.3 F (39.6 C).  Everything else seemed normal.

COULD IT BE A BLADDER INFECTION?

  4. Tamsin Chennell

    urinary infection

  5. Freyja

My first thought would be that she had a kidney infection

  6. Blitz

Kidney infection is most likely or UTI of some sort. I take it she has only just been spayed at that age so could be an infection from the op.

  7. Nonnie

I would check for a urinary tract infection. Excess drinking and peeing is common with a UTI, and the elevated temp is evidence of an infection. Not sure about the skin tenting, as thats a sign of dehydration. She could have a kidney infection, but i wouldnt expect that in a dog so young.

  8. Tina

    Could be diabetes.
    Would need more info.
    Could be parvo

    IS IT BLADDER STONES?

  10. Sandra

Because this little one just had surgery, I suspect that she has a UTI or bladder infection.
