propofol shortage

The FDA is reporting a shortage of the drug, propofol.  Propofol is a medication that is injected intravenously in order to induce anesthetic in dogs and cats.  The most common use for propofol in animals is to administer it at the start of an anesthetic procedure.  This renders the animal completely unconscious so that a breathing tube can be placed in order to administer a gas anesthetic.
