I have had several readers ask me if the recall on Kirkland food sold at Costco also affects dog food purchased in Canada. Several of my Canadian readers have commented on this blog that they have received an automated call from Costco telling them that the food they purchased is indeed recalled and needs to be returned. However, as of this morning, there is no notice on the Costco.ca website. The American version of the website, Costco.com, does display this information.
This morning I phoned Costco Canada Customer Service and got the following message:
Transcription: “Welcome to Costco Wholesale. For English Press 1. If you are calling about the Kirkland Signature and Nature’s Domain pet food recall press 9. There is a recall on Kirkland Signature and Nature’s Domain pet foods. This affects only those with best before dates of December 8, 2012 to January 31, 2013. Please return the affected product to your nearest Costco for a full refund. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
The following two articles will give you more information about this recall:
I don’t have the bag and my 3 month year old Golden has dihera what to do
My dog has had vomitting and diarrhea for the last three days and I can see no reason for the problem. I am feeding him Kirklands Chicken and Rice and have been for a year now. I did get a call from Costco about the recall but my bag did not match the recall period. I am considering changing his food to Blue Buffalo Wilderness and taking this bag back even though I have used half of it with no problems until now. Especially after I have read the responses from other dog owners and the problems that they relate back to the dog food. Thank you for keeping me informed. My Husky is under two years old and hope this will make him a healthy dog again.
I have been a breeder of Dogs for 16 years. The last 3 years I have used Kirkland Signature Adult and Puppy Formula with no problems at all! I am in Canada. All of my adults and puppies are in good shape with no health problems.
